The Secret Place & The Presence of God

The Secret Place is tied to deep intimacy with God, divine protection, and the power of dwelling in His presence. This study will focus on what the Secret Place is, how to enter it, and what happens in the presence of God.

“There’s a private place reserved for the devoted lovers of Yahweh, where they sit near him and receive the revelation-secrets of his promises.” Psalms 25:14 TPT

Theme:

Dwelling with God in intimacy and power

Key Scriptures:

Psalm 91, Matthew 6:6, Exodus 33, Psalm 27, John 15

I. What Is the Secret Place?

1. Psalm 91:1 (KJV)

“He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.”

• The “secret place” speaks of a hidden realm of intimacy with God — not merely a physical location but a posture of the heart.

• It’s where fear has no voice, and identity is restored.

• It’s where protection, peace, and power are released.

2. Matthew 6:6 (NKJV)

“But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place…”

• Jesus taught that the Father is already in the secret place — it’s not about performance, it’s about presence.

II. How to Enter the Secret Place

1. Through Hunger and Desire

Psalm 27:4 (KJV)

“One thing have I desired of the Lord… that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life…”

• The key to entering is desire. God responds to hungry hearts.

• It’s a call to stillness, not striving.

2. Through Worship and Prayer

Psalm 100:4

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise…”

• Thanksgiving and praise are the protocol of His presence.

• Worship isn’t just singing — it’s the posture of surrender and adoration.

3. Through the Blood of Jesus

Hebrews 10:19

“Having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus…”

• Jesus tore the veil. The way is open, but it must still be entered with reverence and expectation.

III. What Happens in the Secret Place

1. Revelation and Instruction

Exodus 33:11 (KJV)

“And the Lord spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend…”

• God speaks with clarity and direction to those who linger.

2. Transformation

2 Corinthians 3:18

“Beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, [we] are being transformed into the same image…”

• You become like what you behold.

3. Empowerment and Glory

Acts 4:13

“They perceived that they had been with Jesus.”

• The secret place isn’t just a quiet time — it’s where glory marks you and power fills you.

IV. Living from the Secret Place

1. Abide Daily

John 15:5

“He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit…”

• This is not a visitation. It’s a habitation.

• Daily rhythms of intimacy lead to continuous awareness of God’s presence.

2. Host His Presence

1 Corinthians 6:19

“Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit…”

• You carry the secret place with you. When you’ve been with God in private, it shows in public.

3. Be Hidden in God

Colossians 3:3

“Your life is hidden with Christ in God.”

• Hiddenness is not obscurity — it’s security in His presence, where the enemy can’t touch what’s covered.

Practical Application & Questions for Reflection

• Where is your secret place? (Create space for encounter: a room, a time, a mindset.)

• Have you been visiting or abiding?

• What is God speaking to you in the secret place right now?

• What do you need to let go of to go deeper into His presence?

Closing Prayer:

“Father, draw me into the secret place. Let my heart burn for Your presence more than anything else. Teach me to dwell, to listen, and to abide. I want to know You, not just know about You. Mark me with Your glory, and let my life overflow from the place of intimacy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
